SUMMER CAMPS

G.R.I.T. (Girls Rising in Tech) camp is open to any incoming or current KPS middle school girls. Students will participate in a week of STEAM-themed activities and experiments, such as STEM escape rooms and homemade bubbles. The goal of the camp is to get girls interested in STEAM, not necessarily robotics. The camp is entirely run by high school girls, overlooked by some of our female mentors. Each night, a woman in a STEM field will come in and talk to our students about their experiences in STEM, what they do, how they achieved their goals, and how it is different being female.

This camp is open to KPS students in 4th and 5th Grade through the EK-STEAM Sizzlin' Summer Science program and Red Storm Robotics. Students work together with the LEGO Spike Prime kit to learn how to build and program a robot. They program their robots to complete a series of missions from a previous season of FIRST LEGO League.

This camp is open to KPS students who will be in 5th grade and have participated in FLL Challenge previously. Students work together with the LEGO Spike Prime kit to build and program a robot. They practice building and using unique mechanisms to achieve more difficult missions from a previous season of FIRST LEGO League.

This camp is open to KPS students in 6th grade who are interested in FTC. The goal of the camp is to get students used to using tools and working with a team. At the camp, we give students activities such as constructing measuring devices or gearboxes, exploring the entire design process, including brainstorming, prototyping, testing, and revising.

KPS high school students meet for "work weeks". Over the course of four weeknights per week, mentors guide students in developing specific skills the students identified at the beginning of the summer.

This camp is open to KPS students who have completed one or two years of FTC and will be in 7th or 8th grade.
Over the course of four weeknights, students and mentors form small groups. Each group programs a chassis with sensors using Blocks or Java to complete a series of programming tasks. Many tasks are related to a maze style game challenge. On the final evening, all groups exhibit their most complex programming for everyone.
